Perhaps surprisingly, the same kind of jointless connections are also possible, when using normal concrete, in quilt-point fabric-formed walls, such as those invented by Kenzo Unno.

Figure 6.62 shows two instances in Unno's walls: (a) at the base of a cast wall, and (b) where a cast wall meets a column.

The trick here is to place the first row of form-ties as close to the fabric's edge(s) as possible. The free fabric between these ties goes into tension as the concrete fills the mould, causing the fabric to gain stiffness as the tension forces increase.

The edges of a fabric mould can, of course, also be clamped tight. Figure 6.63 shows a quilt-point wall mould whose edges have been stapled to a wood perimeter frame. This photo shows the frame, at the bottom of the wall mould, connected to the ground, firmly clamping the fabric. (This photo also shows the vibration of the wet concrete as workers poke and shake the formwork externally while the concrete is being placed.) Tied and clamped base details for column moulds can be found in Figures 8.31and 8.32, p. 151.
